The senior room children are enjoying working on “Turing Tumble”- this is a project where the children build mechanical computers powered by marbles to solve logic puzzles. We are really enjoying the challenge and would like to thank Mr.Fallon for introducing us to them.

We had a wonderful afternoon in the garden last Wednesday. We planted lots of trees- Ash, Horse Chestnut, Oak, Blackthorn, Rown, Hazel and Sycamore. These are all in the nursery waiting for cold weather. These seeds need cold weather to grow. We need to keep an eye on them to make sure the little dormouse doesn’t have a feast on the seeds in the coming weeks! We are learning all about trees this year in SESE and will be doing a Tree Project over the course of the year. Keep an eye out for updates!
We also planted some hardy annuals- these flowers will bloom every year. We planted snowdrops, crocus, daffodils and tulips. We look forward to seeing them in the Springtime. They will add some colour to the garden.

Congratulations to our 2nd and 3rd class pupils Anna McDonnell, Aoife Hoban, David Gallagher, Ethan O’Donnell, Grace O’Donnell, John O’Malley, Lauren O’Malley, Lucy O’Malley, Odhrán Gavin and Ryan Hastings who received their First Holy Communion on Sunday 20th September. This was a long wait for the children but they did so with great patience and understanding. We are very thankful to Ms. Connolly for her all her hard work and effort in preparing the children for their big day. As always it was an extremely momentous occasion for all involved and the current Covid-19 pandemic did not impinge on the celebration.

We were delighted to welcome Martin Connor back to the school garden this month. We did a big tidy up and spent a lot of time weeding! We enjoyed harvesting our potatoes, onions, beetroot and courgettes. These were all planted on 12th March-the day the school closed and Ireland went into lockdown- needless to say the harvest was very poignant this year. We enjoyed delicious vegetable soup which we served with sourdough bread and homemade beetroot relish. We really enjoyed making the relish in school. We have lots of exciting gardening projects planned for the year ahead. Stay tuned for more updates.

We are delighted to have everyone back at school and are really impressed by the way in which the children have adapted so readily to our new school routines. We extend a special welcome to our new Junior Infants, Evie and James. They are settling in very well and we wish them many years of fun and happiness in Carrakennedy N.S.
