End of Year Celebrations

It is hard to believe we are at the end of another school year. Well done to everyone on all your hard-work this year. You have been brilliant. Today had a special celebration for our wonderful 6th class pupils who are moving to secondary school in September- Aodhán, Brooke, Matthew and Patrick- it has been a pleasure to have you in Carrakennedy over the past 8 years. You have brought lots of fun and laughter to our school. We would like to wish you the very best in the years ahead and look forward to hearing how you are getting on. Congratulations also to our 2nd class pupils: Grace, John and Odhrán who are bidding farewell to Ms.Connolly and the Junior Room to join the Senior Room next year. We hope you will all settled in with ease and will enjoy the next four years as much as the last. Our Senior Infants also celebrated the end of their Infant cycle and the completion of the Aistear play programme. They have had great fun over the past few years and received wonderful photo books as a keepsake. Thank you to all the staff for making this another great year in Carrakennedy. Wishing everyone a really enjoyable Summer.

Ms. McDonnell hosted 2 exciting picnic this months for our Junior and Senior Infants and our 1st and 2nd classes. They enjoyed some treats and games on the pitch as they celebrated with the teddies of Carrakennedy. We look forward to more picnics next year Ms.McDonnell.

Butterflies

Thank you to Una and the wonderful pupils of Carrakennedy playschool for coming over to the yard last week to release their butterflies into the garden. The children said a lovely poem for us all about the butterfly and we really enjoyed seeing them take flight.

School Garden

Our garden has had a revamp- we have upgraded the bark and it looks wonderful. The children worked really hard weeding the area and spreading the new bark evenly around the orchard. It looks great. The vegetables are growing well. We look forward to the Harvest in Autumn.

Sports Day

We had a wonderful Sports Day on Friday 11th June. The weather was just perfect. The races were great fun and helped us to work up an appetite for our morning snack. Michael the Ice-Cream Man arrived and served us delicious cones. We enjoyed more fun and games on the pitch before the BBQ. Bernadette cooked yummy hotdogs for everyone. To finish the day we played rounders and a football match. Another great sports day in Carrakennedy with great pictures to see.

Wonderful Weaving

We loved weaving using various materials in Art this term. Starting with paper we designed paper cards, We also made bowls using paper plates and wool. They turned out really well. Our last project was Dreamcatchers. After weaving we decorated them with beads and feathers. The dreamcatchers are used each night to help us have sweet dreams.

Vicious Vikings

We really enjoyed learning all about The Vikings in history this year- the fierce warriors from Scandinavia. We made helmets using papier maché- have a look and see who is the the most fearsome of us all!!!
