Wishing you all a very enjoyable Easter. The children had a great morning completing their Easter crafts and then on the egg hunt. Some clues were a little difficult but the children persevered and solved the puzzle: Coinín ag Léim!!! An egg hunt with a twist!
Well done to these seven fantastic pupils who have been in school every day this term. You are absolutely brilliant.
Our 6th class travelled to the new Westport GAA pitch to plant some trees around the site. The children can watch them grow in the years ahead when they are down at the pitch. Thank you to Pat Gavin for bringing them in.
We are so proud of the girls and boys from 4th, 5th and 6th class who played in the FAI 5 aside soccer this week. Congratulations to the girls who won their blitz- they played absolutely brilliantly in all matches and have made it through to the Mayo finals. The boys made it through to the final but unfortunately were beaten by a goal in the last minute of extra time. They should be so proud of themselves for their effort and superb playing. Well done everyone we are so proud of you. A huge thank you to Ms Hester and Anne O’Malley for preparing the teams so well. We look forward to the Mayo finals in May.
To round up Seachtain na Gaeilge we enjoyed some damhsa is spraoi in the school halla today. The children enjoyed a Tráth na gCeist as Gaeilge. The results were very close. We then enjoyed some ceilí dancing together and learned a new dance Droilín. The children played some Irish music and then we had a little talent show. Well done a phaistí you were go hiontach ar fad.
Congratulations to our 5th and 6th class pupils who were confirmed by Archbishop Francis Duffy in Aughagower Church on Tuesday 14th March. It was a beautiful celebration for the pupils of Carrakennedy NS, Lankill NS and Knockrooskey NS.
We had a great “Snow Day” in school last Friday. The children both breaks (and a little extra time) on the pitch. There was a girls and boys competition for the best snowman- Who do you think should get the prize??
Just a little update on how The National Children’s Choir is going this year. We had our final cluster rehearsal on Monday in Knockrooskey NS and the children were absolutely fantastic. It is really coming together beautifully and we are getting very excited for our concert on Thursday 4th May in the Royal Theatre, Castlebar. The children have worked tremendously hard this year on their repertoire impressing us all with their interpretation and understanding of the different genres of song. They are learning their words well and have embraced the different languages from Gaeilge to Italian, Spanish, Slovakian and Latin! Their enthusiasm, diligence and perseverance not to mention their beautiful singing is to be commended. We are just so proud of them. Tickets for the concert in Castlebar will be for sale in the school after Easter.
The senior room have been learning about the Farming Industry in Ireland and the wowed us this week at assembly with their incredible powerpoint presentations. We learned so much over the past few weeks about dairy farming, beef farming, poultry farming, tillage farming and sheep farming. We enjoyed a zoom call with a dairy farmer in Longford and learned all about that industry. We were delighted to welcome Ed and the three little pigs to school on Friday to hear all about pig farming.
