Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween

Have a look at the spooktacular Halloween costumes.

Everyone made a fangtastic effort. Wishing you all a very Happy Mid-term break. Enjoy the festivities this week. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 6th November.

Halloween Treats

Halloween Treats

A massive thank you to the senior room girls who made delicious Halloween treats for all to enjoy- toffee apples and spooky buns. They are making a habit of spoiling us with homemade treats. Thank you to Bernadette and Shirley for giving them a helping hand. I wonder what they will make next?

Mini 7’s Football

Mini 7’s Football

Well done to the Senior room Girls and Boys who participated in the INTO Mini 7’s football competition. The girls joined forces with Lecanvey NS and they took to the field in Kilmeena winning all 3 games in their group and making it through to the semi-finals. Unfortunately, it was not their day but they played absolutely brilliantly and we are so proud of them.

The boys teamed up with Killawalla and played on the Astro in Westport on the one of the wettest days we have had this year! They played really well winning one of their group stage matches. They played some lovely football on the day.

We look forward to the Cumann na mBunscol football in the Spring.

Swimming

Swimming

We had our final swimming class today in the C Club at the Castlecourt Hotel. We really enjoyed the 6 week swimming block and are very thankful to the wonderful instructors who helped us each week. We stopped off at Centra on our way home for a treat.

Green Schools Update

Green Schools Update

In May, we were awarded our 8th Green Flag- for Global Citizenship- Marine Environment. The children worked very hard over two years learning about this theme. We have now begun working on our next Green Schools theme- over the next two years we will be focusing on Global Citizenship and Sustainable Travel.  We welcomed Lucas from An Taisce last week as he introduced us to the topic. This week he returned to the school and we carried out a safety survey on the roads approaching our school. We examined the speed limits and signage and have noted improvements that need to be made which we will send to Mayo CoCo. We hope that working on this flag will help us to make it safer for us travelling to school. Our new bicycle shed will be installed during the mid-term break.

A Mid-September Treat

A Mid-September Treat

We decided to make use of the delicious crop of apples growing in the school garden. Last week the senior room children learned how to make apple crumble with Bernadette and Shirley. It was absolutely delicious. We served it with custard and ice-cream- a lovely mid-week treat!!

Schools Cross Country

Schools Cross Country

Well done to the boys and girls in the senior room who took part in the Mayo schools cross country in The Country Lodge last week. Odhrán Gavin came 1st place in his race and Patrick O’Malley came in 7th place and they both went on to represent the school in the Mayo county cross country in Ballina doing both themselves and the school proud. A huge achievement to make it through boys- well done. We look forward to participating again next year and in the meantime we will continue with our Daily Mile!

Welcome to our new Junior Infants

We have had a great first week back at school. Everyone has settled back and we are enjoying learning in our new classes.

We were delighted to welcome our four new Junior Infants to Carrakennedy NS: Caelan, Cian, Freddie and Ruben. Ms. Hester said they are absolutely brilliant boys and they have really settled in to big school. We hope you have many wonderful years here together.
