The eagerly awaited Mini 7’s took place last week in Kilmeena GAA. Our girls kicked off proceedings in a highly competitive group. The girls displayed great courage, skill and teamwork with our compatriots in Murrisk NS. Unfortunately, they missed out on qualification to the semi-finals. Thursday was the turn of our boys. We again joined forces with our friends from the other side of the reek, Murrisk NS. They hit the ground running topping their group making it through to the semi-final against Newport NS and then on to the final against Myna NS. In an honest, sporting game, our boys emerged as winners and, for the first time in our history won the Mini 7’s title for the Westport area. It is a massive achievement and a memory that will stay with us for a very long time. The boys now go on to the West Mayo finals in the coming weeks. We want to express our thanks to all of our supporters- parents, siblings and classmates. We also want to take a moment to appreciate the work our coaches have done in developing our skills, teamwork and confidence, showing us that playing together and backing each other up can produce amazing results. Thank you to Martin, Pat and Anne for their continued support and input.
We really enjoyed our trip to the Town Hall last week to see The Dead Letter Office play. After the play we took a stroll around the town and were absolutely delighted when we bumped in to Ms. Connolly. We had a great catch up with her and she could not believe how grown up we all were. We finished the day with a trip to Auntie Nellies!
Well done to the boys and girls in the senior room who took part in the Mayo schools cross country in Murrisk in September. All who participated ran brilliantly and we are so proud of you all. Congratulations to Odhrán Gavin who came in 2nd place in his race and went on to represent the school in the Mayo county cross country in Ballina. Odhrán finished in 7th place in Ballina and will now go on to represent the school in the Connaught Cross Country race next weekend in Leitrim. We wish him the very best in his race. We look forward to participating again next year and in the meantime we will continue with our Daily Mile!
We welcomed six super Junior Infants to Carrakennedy NS this year- Aaron Clarke, Daisy McDonnell, Luke McCann, Richie Heraty, Sive O’Malley and Tommie Hastings. They are settling in really well to the junior room. Ms Hester said they are wonderful workers and love learning. We hope they have many wonderful years in our school.
