We are really enjoyed our music generation classes with Catherine McGlinchy. The senior room are learning the Ukulele and the junior room are doing music workshops. We are learning lots each week and look forward to showcasing all we have learned at the end of year celebration. Something nice to look forward to.
We rounded off Seachtain na Gaeilge with a Lá Glas in our school- we had great fun dancing at the céilí and really enjoyed the Tráth na gCeist. Comhghaideas do ghach duine. Táimíd an- bhródúil asaibh.
We celebrated World Book Day in style this year- the children went to great rounds dressing up as characters from their favourite books. Can you recognise any of them?
We worked on a STEM project with Mr Fallon over the past number of weeks and submitted it to Abbvie for the STEM competition. We were concerned with the amount of plastic that ends up in our rivers, lakes and seas and came up with a wonderful idea called the Deflector Collector. This prototype does exactly as the title says- it deflects waste from the water and collect it in a net. We were thrilled with our results and hope it is something that could be introduced to our waterways to reduce the amount of waste.
We were delighted to welcome Peter from UPP back to Carrakennedy today for another workshop. This year we focused on leadership and working together. We had great fun completing co=operative activities together. It was another great day with Peter and we look forward to working with him again next year.
We celebrated Saint Brigid’s Day in school today. We listened to stories about her life and made Sain Brigid’s Crosses and Brídóg Dolls. We had a great celebration in her honour.
Congratulations to all the children who took part in the Credit Union Quiz. Our senior team members: Anna, Lucy, Aoife and John finished in 3rd place overall. Such a brilliant achievement. Our junior team members- Patrick, Cillian, Lily and Kate finished in fourth place after some gruelling tie breaker questions. We are so proud of both teams. You did absolutely brilliantly and as always made us feel so proud. Congratulations and well done.
We have six children who never missed a day for term 1. Well done to Lily O’Malley, Cillian McDonnell, James McDonnell, Diarmuid McDonnell, Evan O’Malley and Freddie Hastings.
We came to school dressed in our Christmas jumpers today to raise money for the Gina Heraty Foundation in Haiti. The children were very generous with their donations and we are thrilled to be able to present Gina with €245. Gina said she will get some ice-cream for a treat for the children at Christmas.
We were delighted to welcome Gemma Hensey to the school today when she was delivering out Grandparents’ Chat books. We loved being part of this project and are very proud to see our pieces in the book. A great Christmas gift for our loved ones. Thank you Gemma for inviting us to be part of this initiative.
