National Concert Hall

National Concert Hall

Congratulations and well done to Caitlin, Katherine, Lauren and Lucy who represented the school and sang in The National Concert Hall last week as part of the National Children’s Choir. The girls sang their hearts out alongside children from all over Ireland. One very special guest was in attendance that night in The National Concert Hall- our President Michael D. Higgins. Have a look at the photos- he absolutely loved the singing too. Well done girls we are so proud of you.

ABBVIE STEM Packs

A huge thank you to parents Sinéad Conway and Seán O’Malley for delivering the STEM packs from Abbvie to all pupils in the school. The packs are full to the brim with fun STEM activities for the children. We made the sponge water soakers and really enjoyed trying them out last week during the roasting weather. We made up some fun games to go with them and then enjoyed a great water fight on the pitch!! Thank you Abbvie and Volunteer Ireland for organising these packs.

Cumann na mBunscol Quarter and Semi-Finals

The boys and girls of Carrakennedy are on a winning streak and look forward to the County Finals in McHale Park in a few weeks.

Both teams played two epic games in the quarter finals in Westport GAA last week- girls against Manulla and boys against Crimlin paving our way to the semi-finals.

The teams played two cracking semi-finals in Park Josie Munnelly this week- girls against Craggagh and boys against Derrinabroc emerging victrious in both games. This sets us up for an historic double attempt – BOYS and GIRLS in the Cumann na mBunscol Finals.

Spar Soccer Girls Mayo Finals

Congratluations to the girls of 5th and 6th class who showed off their talent in soccer at the Spar Soccer Mayo finals. They girls played some brilliant ball at the blitz. Unfortunately, it was not their day and they finished as runners up in the competition. Girls we are so proud of you and your achievements- another medal for you all. Well done super stars.

National Children’s Choir Regional Concert, The Royal Theatre, Castlebar

We had an amazing night in The Royal Theatre, Castlebar for our NCC Regional Concert. After months of hard work learning a repertoire of 15 songs the night of the concert finally came and all our hard work and perseverance paid off. We sang alongside 600 children from 10 schools in the Westport/Castlebar area and we brought the house down – the sound was just incredible. Well done to the wonderful children of Carrakennedy NS- you were all fantastic.

Maths Fun

Enjoying lots of hands on Maths activities as we learn about the strand measures. Great fun had by all!

Meadhbh Harrison Scientist in the Making

We were delighted to welcome back our past pupil Meadhbh Harrison to the school this week to tell us about the amazing project she and her two study buddies Ellie and Lily completed as part of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition earlier this year. The girls finished 2nd Senior Group in the Social & Behavioural Sciences with their project, Sex Bias in the Diagnosis of Chronic Illnesses. The results were fascinating and we learned so much from their visit. It gave us an insight into the hard work that it takes to participate in the project. Hopefully someday some of us will follow in their footsteps.

Chicks

We had some egg citing visitors in our school this week. Billy the chicken farmer dropped off 4 eggs to Carrakennedy earlier this week. We have been waiting patiently and watching very closely. All 4 eggs have hatched and we have four very fluffy friends here. It has been amazing to watch their life cycle. We will look after these little chicks in the school for another few days before they move to their new home in Carrarevaugh with Bernadette. Welcome to the community…. Harriet, Cheesepuff, Chenile and Coco

Easter Run

What an end to another great term in Carrakennedy NS. The Senior room completed their run this morning. They took off in three groups and wowed us with their fitness and perseverance. They definitely deserve the holidays after that! Looking forward to our next run before the Summer holidays. Well done everyone you were brilliant.
